Project Overview
The Griffith City Council Pound & Rehoming Centre is a state-of-the-art public facility designed to give locally impounded cats and dogs the best chance of finding new owners in loving homes.
In 2017, long-standing return client GCC engaged Asset Building Systems to design and construct the new facility. Working collaboratively in the final stages of the design, Asset Building played a critical role in altering the design of the structural steel structure to secure waterproof and fungal-proof qualities.
The project’s scope included earthworks, a new concrete pad for the industrial shed, steel UB columns, roof frame and rafters, underfloor heating to protect animals from extreme weather, tilt-panel concrete walls and dividers for the dogs and cats. As a specialist building to care for animals, air-conditioning was included as well as underfloor heating. A highly-durable, nonpermeable-sealant which was applied to the floors to assist with regular cleaning and to minimise the spread of disease.
Built with a similar style to a tilt-panel industrial building, Asset Building Systems constructed the shed from the ground up industrial shed construction method, involving a lot of internal work to ensure the building was built to provide a sterile and safe environment for the animals.
Asset Building specified precast panels with a special concrete additive, Everdure Caltite, which is added to the precast, effectively creating a non-absorbent, impermeable and durable field concrete.
Finished with a modern Trimdek sheeted roof and dynamic artwork on the walls, the building tells of Griffith City Council’s degree of investment and care for animals in the Griffith City region.
If there were challenges, how did ABS] respond to them? Despite our supplier of panels dropping out last minute, we still met the timeline by sourcing the panels elsewhere.
