Location: Wagga Wagga, New South Wales
Client: Adaptive Interiors
Industry: Commercial – Industrial
Scope: Custom Industrial Shed – Warehouse Design & Construction
Asset Building Systems (ABS) were contracted by Adaptive Interiors in 2015 for the engineering, fabrication and construction of a new 52m x 23m x 7m Custom Industrial Shed at their Headquarters in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales.
Providing a full ‘Dirt to Done’ building solution for this industrial shed project, ABS oversaw the site excavation, footings and floor concreting, crane and access equipment supply for end-to-end delivery of the industrial shed structure. This new structure was an addition to the clients existing HQ, allowing easy access between buildings.
In need of a much larger workspace to cater for their manufacturing branch of Adaptive Interiors, ABS worked closely with the client during the design stage to develop a custom industrial shed footprint to suit the business needs of the company now and into the future.
The industrial warehouse was constructed from hot-dip galvanized UB Columns, with galvanised web trusses for greater longevity and durability of the shed structure.
The height of the galvanised portal frame was set at 7m to ensure forklift and pallet racking requirements were met. Following completion of the warehouse, the front office addition and facade were managed and constructed by the client themselves!
Using our crane-assist method means that the entire roof structure and columns of the structural steel warehouse were raised directly on-site from the ground, including insulation, roofing, and engineering checks, before being triple crane-lifted into place.
Compared to the conventional practices of shed building, ABS’s crane-assisted building methodology offers unmatched safety outcomes by removing the dangers of working at heights and securing construction efficiencies by building from the ground – meaning fewer defects and greater certainty through our systematic Quality Assurance controls.
Were there any obstacles that the ABS team had to overcome?
With careful planning, detailed understanding of the site constraints, precision plans & engineering along with quality management of materials and construction process, the ABS team ensures that major potential challenges are mininized, ensuring nothing substantial will hinder the project delivery.
During the warehouse construction, the active worksite was visited by WorkCover NSW (now known as SafeWork, NSW’s workplace health and safety regulator) to conduct a routine check on WHS.
The Authority stopped our crane lift to check our paperwork for high-risk work, they assessed our adoption of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and we passed with flying colours.
Were there any modifications or changes made at any stage of the project?
As we were pouring the footings client changed the building size to be 2m wider to account, and we adapted to this request with ease.
We were able to work with the customer on flexible building requirements, to build their new warehouse the way they wanted it, and extend the room of their current warehouse so they could expand their operations.
